Historical town in kannur and kozhikkod border



Mahe is a historical town situated between Kannur and Kozhikode district. Though it is situated between two districts in Kerala, Mahe is actually a part of the Indian union territory of Puducherry. Puducherry has four provinces and Mahe is one of them. The other three provinces are Puducherry and Karakkal in Tamil Nadu and Yanam in Andhra Pradesh. The major attraction of Mahe include the St. Theresa church (popularly known as Mahe church) the Tagore Park and the walkway on the banks of River Mayyazhi. The educational institutions here include Jawahar Navodaya, Mahatma Gandhi Government Arts College and Mahe Institute of Dental Science. Mahe the birth place of the famous Hollywood director Manoj Night Shyamalan. Mahe is also the birthplace of the famous novelist M Mukundan who wrote the popular novel ‘Mayyazhi puzhayude theerangalil’ (On the Banks of the River Mayyazhi) which describes the political and social life of this beautiful place. This novel has been translated into other languages and have won many awards. This novel is still read as one of the best novels in Malayalam
